Gardening and Maintenance

Everyone loves a beautiful landscape, but not everyone has the time or patience is takes to maintain such beauty. Spring and fall cleanups, mulching, deadheading, weeding, fertilizing are all the things I can take care of for you so you have more time to smell the roses. Maintenance visits range from annual or seasonal (spring, summer, fall) all the way up to weekly. Most people can do with seasonal or monthly visits.

Small Tree and Shrub Pruning

Worried about when to prune your Lilac without loosing your blooms? How about that overgrown Red Dogwood that’s eating your fence? As a certified arborist, I will choose the best method for pruning your shrubs whether it be renewal pruning, shearing or simply cutting it to the base and starting fresh. All shrubs are not the same, and while shearing may be ok for a Boxwood, you definitely do not want to do that to your Pagoda Dogwood. I can also do small trees via pole saw.

Disease and Insect Control

Just like people, plants need the doctor sometimes too. I can diagnose and treat plant disease and insect problems. I only recommend treatments that are effective and necessary, and many times treatments may not involve chemicals at all. Emerald Ash Borer, for example, must be treated preventatively or you will loose your Ash tree. Trunk injection is the most effective treatment and also safest for the applicator and homeowner. A Lilac with a little bit of powdery mildew is just a cosmetic issue, and often times can be cured with pruning instead of a fungicidal spray. I rarely ever recommend spraying unless absolutely necessary.

Landscape Rejuvenation

My favorite project is taking an overgrown, tired landscape and giving it a makeover to bring it back to life. Instead of ripping out everything and starting from scratch, all a place needs is a little pruning, maybe a few new perennials and mulch to make it look like a million bucks again. This is my specialty, and I am happy to do even the smallest of projects.

Native and Pollinator Friendly Landscaping

Pollinators and native ecosystems need our help! Simply adding a small prairie garden or replacing exotic species with native ones are two small ways to make a big impact. I prefer to use native species as much as possible when recommending plants. I love designing prairie, butterfly, woodland and pollinator friendly gardens.

Invasive Species Control

While earning my Biology degree, I grew a passion for invasive species. Buckthorn, honeysuckle, garlic mustard, barberry, Canadian thistle and many more are common invasive plant pests that plague even the smallest of yards in Southern Wisconsin. Eradicating these harmful plants is important for our native species and ecosystems to thrive. My expertise is eradicating them effectively and replacing them with native alternatives. I’m happy to help in any project whether it be by replacing an old honeysuckle hedge or all the way to saving your woods from invading buckthorn and garlic mustard.

Consultation

Want to do the work yourself but not really sure where to start? Thinking you want to add more color but your backyard is shaded by Walnuts? I’m happy to consult and help you through any project. I’m also happy to work alongside you to show you how it’s done. There are definitely some landscaping tasks that are much more fun than others, and I can help by taking care of the boring or hard parts.
