Mazomanie – Makeover
This was one of several projects at this Mazomanie home. The goal was to remove the invasive species like mulberry, buckthorn and bishop’s weed to create a space that’s low maintenance, maintains a screen for privacy, and provides food and habitat for birds. After removing the invasives and a small patch of poison ivy, I added Arrowwood Viburnums and Aronia shrubs to fill the majority of the bed. I also added some spreading perennials in the front for color. Once these fast growing shrubs grow to full size, they will create enough shade below their canopies to keep the weeds out, minimizing the need for future weeding. Both Aronia and Viburnums require pruning, but only every 2-3 years.
Middleton – Weeding
This lovely home was purchased the winter before. After tackling some big projects over the spring in other areas of the yard, the homeowners decided they needed help with their inherited front garden beds. Some annual weeds made their way in over the spring, and after a day and half of weeding, I was able to free up their pathways and perennials.
Mazomanie – Rejuvenation
This wonderful homestead in Mazomanie looked good before I arrived, but needed a little updating. By removing the invasive field daylilies and lily of the valley, thinning out the existing hostas, and adding a few pollinator friendly and Black Walnut tolerant perennials, I was able to really transform this country home.
Downtown Madison – Makeover
This ever changing project starting by just removing a few stumps from old grape and trumpet vines along the chain link fence. The homeowner had just bought the property and after fixing up the house wanted the landscape changed up too. Midsummer, after trying to renewal prune the honeysuckle along the back fence, I convinced the client to replace them altogether with short growing varieties of Arborvitae and Juniper. We also used cardboard for weed barrier below the mulch, decreasing the need for chemical control of weeds prior to mulching.
North Side of Madison – Makeover
This giant Juniper was taking over the corner of this property on the north side of Madison. Not only did it dominate the view of the house, but it was a safety concern for traffic at the busy intersection nearby. The homeowner wanted something that was pollinator friendly but low growing so that the cars had visibility.
South Side of Madison – Maintenance
This lovely property was well taken care of by a homeowner with a green thumb. The tile ponds and unique woodland perennials are definitely signs of an avid garden. Due to health concerns, the yard got out of control and I was called to help restore it to its former glory.
