The old man might be snoring away on a rainy day, but those dormant plants are now starting to wake up. While day rain is a bit of a bummer for a gardener who is itching to get outside after a long, isolated winter, those recently dormant plants are loving it. This spring started a bit on the drier side, actually very close to drought conditions. I was bit concerned about our early spring blooms until this weekend. Light day-long spring rains allow the water to actually trickle into the soil, unlike our now normal extreme downpours. Lawns are greening up, trees and shrubs are leafing out, and the daffodils and blood root are flowering their little hearts out.
